Gardening Tips

Some of the nuances inherent in the plant, you should know before planting it on the site:

Liana of the "Ashva" variety has been growing in one place for 20-25 years. If the plants are planted in groups, then the distance between the bushes is maintained at least 1 m.

The site is chosen sunny and protected from the winds. With gusts of wind, the shoots get confused and break, the flowers are damaged, and the decorativeness of the plant is significantly reduced.

In order for clematis to develop normally, to bloom profusely for a long time, it is necessary to choose the right support. Choose one that is plant-friendly and attractive to the owner.

Attention! Without supports, the liana "Ashva" will not be able to hold its weight and play the role of a decorative gardener of the site.

Overheating of the root system of the flower is unacceptable. To protect it, on the south side, the plant is blocked with other low shrubs, perennials or a fence. To protect the roots of "Ashva" from the sun, in the near-stem zone, you can plant low flowering species - marigolds, calendula. This technique will help protect clematis and pests.

According to gardeners, clematis of the "Ashva" variety shows its peak of decorativeness at the age of 3 to 7 years. Then the roots are strongly intertwined and require increased watering and nutrition.

Advice! It is recommended to rejuvenate the vine once every 7 years.

The most thorough care is needed for young bushes at the age of 2-3 years. Twice a year (spring and autumn) they are fed with rotted manure with the addition of ash and phosphorus-potassium fertilizer.

The main stages of cultivation of clematis varieties "Ashva" are planting and care.

Planting clematis

Gardeners propagate clematis themselves or purchase elite varieties of seedlings. Clematis large-flowered privateer "Ashva" is the pride of Dutch breeders. Plant seedlings are bought in a specialized store and stored until planting at temperatures from 0 to + 2⁰С. If it is noticed that the buds are beginning to germinate, the plant is transferred to a cool, but well-lit place. This must be done so that the shoots do not stretch out.

Clematis prefer loose, loamy, fertile soil. Naturally, with a slightly alkaline or neutral reaction. The acidic environment for clematis "Ashva" is unsuitable, as well as heavy and damp soil.

Important! Do not plant "Ashva" very close to the walls of buildings.

According to the description of the variety, a distance of 15-20 cm must be maintained between clematis "Ashva" and the wall. This requirement is due to the fact that near the buildings there is dry soil. Therefore, clematis in this zone grow slowly, bloom very weakly and often die. Near a residential building, the space between the wall and clematis is increased to 30 cm. It is required to ensure that water from the roof does not fall on the shoots.

The best time for planting clematis "Ashva", according to the description and reviews of gardeners, is the end of May. It is important to avoid the danger of recurrent frost.

A planting pit for clematis is dug in the form of a cube with sides of 60 cm.The top layer of earth from the pit is cleaned of weeds, mixed with:

  • humus or compost (2-3 buckets);
  • peat and sand (1 bucket each);
  • superphosphate (150 g);
  • complex mineral fertilizer for flowers (200 g);
  • bone meal (100 g);
  • chalk (200 g);
  • wood ash (200 g).

For light soil, increase the amount of peat, add clay. Give the soil time to settle. This takes 2-3 days. A drainage layer is placed at the bottom of the pit - sand or perlite.

If the roots of the "Ashva" seedling are a little dry, then it is soaked in cold water for 3-4 hours. If the plant is purchased in a container, then it is immersed in water for 20 minutes. When the substrate is saturated with moisture, you can start planting.

Clematis hybrid "Ashva" is planted with a root collar deepening by 7-10 cm. From the soil level, the seedling is buried 3-5 cm in heavy soil, and in sandy loam by 5-10 cm. The distance between the bushes of "Ashva" is left at least 60- 70 cm. Immediately water and mulch the near-stem zone. In the first 10 days, the bushes are shaded from the scorching sun.

What to do if you managed to purchase Ashva saplings in late autumn? They are placed in a basement with a temperature of no more than + 5 ° C. The roots are covered with a moistened mixture of sand and sawdust. Be sure to pinch the plants to prevent the shoots from growing. Repeat pinching after 2-3 weeks.

Bush care

The main care for clematis consists of:

Glaze. It must be timely and complete. The exactingness of clematis to moisture is known to flower growers. Lianas "Ashva" need abundant watering during the growth period. However, wetlands and constantly humid places are completely unsuitable for growing clematis "Ashva" ("Ashva"). The period after snowmelt is especially dangerous. At this time, it is necessary to ensure the outflow of moisture in order to avoid waterlogging of the root system. The "Ashva" variety does not need frequent watering. It is important to monitor the condition of the soil and prevent it from completely drying out. When watering, make sure that the stream of water is not directed to the center of the bush. In spring, the bushes are watered with milk of lime made from 200 g of lime and 10 liters of water. This volume is spent on 1 sq. m area.

Top dressing. If the plant was planted last year, then the bushes are fed at least 4 times per season and only after watering. Clematis do not like the increased concentration of nutrients in the soil. For feeding "Ashva" organic and mineral compositions are used. It is recommended to alternate them. In summer, monthly watering with a solution of boric acid or potassium permanganate (2 g per 10 liters of water) works well, sprayed with a solution of urea (0.5 tablespoons per bucket of water). When the plant blooms, feeding is stopped. Overfeeding will shorten the flowering period.

Weeding. An important stage, you should not neglect it. Weeds can seriously deprive the plant of moisture and nutrients, so they must be dealt with and the soil must be mulched.

Pruning. The buds of the plant are laid on young shoots of the current year. This suggests that clematis "Ashva" belongs to the plants of the 3rd pruning group. Therefore, there is no point in preserving old shoots. Clematis "Ashva" is cut every spring.Young plants planted in spring must form in autumn (October - early November) in the same year. This will help the seedling to take root well and overwinter. In the spring, all old shoots are cut into 2 buds.

If the shoot is frozen, then it is removed to the ring. Also do with two-year and three-year clematis vines.

Shelter for the winter... Before sheltering, clematis must be cut off, old leaves are removed. If the event is carried out correctly, then clematis "Ashva" can withstand frost up to 45 ° С. But the main danger is waterlogging of the soil in early spring or autumn. Water can freeze at night and the ice damages the roots. Therefore, you must carefully cover the soil around the bush.

The shelter is carried out in November, when the soil begins to freeze, and the air temperature is set within -5 ° C ... -7 ° C. They cover with earth, weathered peat, and spruce branches are added on top. In the spring, the shelter is removed gradually.

More about autumn events:

Clematis "Ashva" is most widely used in landscape design projects. Lush arches covered with large flowers can decorate any area. Ashva is especially useful when decorating walls, terraces, gazebos or supports.

Of great help for gardeners are not only the description and photos of clematis "Ashva", but also the reviews of those who are already growing a flower.

Testimonials

Tatyana, Voronezh
I love clematis very much. I chose the "Ashva" variety for its large lush flowers. We have a lot of buildings on the site, so we need to decorate the walls. My bush is 7 years old. During this time, he gained strength. I'm going to rejuvenate the plant next year. Clematis "Ashva" can be propagated only in a vegetative way. The seeds do not allow to maintain the maternal properties. Dividing the bush will do - the easiest way for gardeners.
Irina, Belgorod
Our clematis "Ashva" is already 15 years old. From experience I can say that this is a very unpretentious vine. In the first year of cultivation of clematis "Ashva" was guided only by the description and reviews. Then she gained her experience and now many seek advice. The main thing is to keep the moisture balance. Do not overflow, but do not overdry the plant!

    1. Good afternoon, Vera!
      The best time to plant clematis in autumn is September. At this time, there is still no night frost, and before frost, the flowers have enough time to take root and prepare for winter. Clematis need at least 4-5 weeks for full rooting. And although autumn this year spoils us with warmth, we still advise you to keep the flower in the basement until spring.
      In the Trans-Baikal Territory, there are already slight frosts at night. Better not to risk it. Clematis simply does not have time to prepare for the frost and may freeze.
