In the southern regions, eggplants of the Ilya Muromets variety are cultivated in the open field, in the central and northern regions - under a film shelter and in greenhouses. Film tunnels are preferable: heat-loving eggplants overheat in the greenhouse on hot days, they can lose the ovary and color.
The variety justifies the name Ilya Muromets: the bush reaches a height of 1 m, branched, dense, powerful... Fruits of deep dark purple color are striking in size - irregular spindle-shaped cylinders with a diameter of 10 cm and up to 40 cm in length, weighing more than half a kilogram. The yield of the variety goes off scale for 10 kg / m2... Favorable reviews contribute to the spread of Ilya Muromets eggplants.
Agricultural technology of cultivating varieties
For two and a half months of active growth of eggplant seedlings of the high-yielding variety Ilya Muromets, the plant acquires 5-7 true leaves and a branched root system. A pick, if necessary, is carried out until the plant has parted with the cotyledon leaves. If it is possible to do without transplants that are traumatic for the roots, immediately plant the germinated eggplant seeds in large pots.
A medium-sized eggplant of the Ilya Muromets variety is planted in fertilized soil. The wells are pre-filled with compost or humus, filled with water to the brim. After repeated water-charging irrigation, we plant seedlings with a clod of earth in the slurry, deepen the root collar by 1–2 cm. The roots are not injured with such a planting, the survival rate of plants is 100%.
On top of the hole we mulch with dry humus with a layer of 2 cm. Moisture does not evaporate, a crust does not form on the soil surface. After 2 days, we rake the mulch, carry out loosening - gardeners call this operation dry irrigation. Mulch after loosening returns to its original place. The air has access to the roots of the plant, the capillaries through which moisture evaporates are broken. The roots do not dry out. In hot weather, eggplant seedlings are shaded, but in the morning and in the evening they give plenty of sunlight.
After planting, shoots and lower leaves are removed before the first fork. So, a bush is formed so that the sun is enough for every plant and leaf. With the appearance of the ovaries, another operation is to be performed to remove it. 5-7 large fruit ovaries are left on the bush. Others are removed, including flowers. This is a forced measure: the eggplant of the Ilya Muromets variety is a large-fruited plant, if you do not lighten the bush, the ripening of the fruits will stretch to cold weather. The fruits are crushed.
